Cow milking, river rafting and Insights Discovery

Junior Chamber International Switzerland, a UN-partner organisation that empowers young leaders to create positive change, has made perfect use of Insights Discovery profiles as part of their JCIS Swiss Academy.

The Junior Chamber International (JCI) is a non-profit organisation with members between 18 and 40 years old: Courageous, active and open leaders who are ready to develop new skills and to have a positive impact on the worlds improvement. JCI is active in more than 100 countries on all five continents, comprising 6000 local chambers with around 200,000 members.

Insights Switzerland supported one of their practitioners by sponsoring 15 Insights Discovery profiles for their workshop recently. Practitioner, Stephan Lendi created a weekend full of activities to physically and mentally challenge the participants and grouped them according to their Insights preferences. Stephan said:

We wanted the participants to experience first-hand what it's like to work as a team of exclusively like-minded people. They realised what benefits this created, but also some challenges.

The groups were sent on river rafting boats down a challenging river in the southern part of Switzerland, teams of two guided each other through a tree top rope adventure, while one of the two was blindfolded. The participants were able to draw conclusions and reach insights during the debriefing in the evening of day one. The group’s wishes for day two were to be challenged as a whole group and to benefit from the various strengths and Insights Discovery preferences. These wishes would be fulfilled even earlier than they had anticipated.

A 4am wake-up call found some members of the group rather surprised and very tired - some had stayed up until 2am playing cards and talking. The group’s challenge was to prepare breakfast for several VIP guests to arrive around 10am, but breakfast had to be made from scratch, which included activities at three different locations, from milking cows to baking bread and all that with only one car and authorised driver, and a set of restrictions that challenged the group even further.

The group benefitted from the conclusions and insights from the debriefing the evening before and managed to work as a group and team to fulfil the challenging tasks. Our practitioner, Stephan Lendi was amazed at how effectively and efficiently the group was able to reach their goals:

Thanks to Insights Discovery we've been able to make this an awesome and unique experience for all participants and get them to benefit as individuals and as a team, for their private lives and their professional lives.
