Mark Beaumont's Highland Line Challenge - completed!
It took ten days, 230 miles, several marathons, four massive swims, but on Monday evening, ten days after he started, Mark Beaumont staggered onto the beach front at Aberdeen. His Highland Line Challenge, in support of the STV Appeal, had been met...
Giving his trusted bike a rest, the unique expedition saw Mark swimming and running coast-coast across Scotland, following the line of the scenic Highland Boundary Fault Line from the Isle of Arran to Stonehaven, finishing his epic journey in Aberdeen.
En route he faced extreme cold in the deep waters of the Firth of Clyde and Loch Lomond, extreme heat on what turned out to be the hottest week of the year, exhaustion and his own fears.
Insights was proud to be a sponsor and a running partner on the last day of the challenge. Team Insights ran sections with Mark from Edzell to Aberdeen, with one runner doing 50km to keep Mark company on this last gruelling last day of 40 miles.
Andy Lothian, Insights CEO said: “Insights is honoured to support Mark in the Highland Line Challenge. We are proud to be a Scottish company, and proud to be helping Mark make a difference to Scottish children living in poverty.
“Mark’s passion, drive and commitment in all that he does is an inspiration. His legacy is created through sharing his stories to make a difference in the world. Insights intention is to help him achieve this.”
Mark's journey was captured by STV’s cameras for an STV Appeal documentary to be broadcast later this year. If you can't wait to see him cross the finish line you can watch this on the STV website.
When interviewed at the end he said: “This has proven to be one of the toughest challenges of #marksHLC is completemy life. Over 10 days, I pushed myself to my limit both with the open water swimming and ultra endurance running, covering 230 miles from Arran to Aberdeen.
“The stand out memory for me is how many thousands of people got involved, ranging from children, runners, fundraisers, well wishes and companies. I didn't run a single mile of the challenge alone and the community and online support brought this STV Appeal challenge to life. I can't wait to find out how much we have managed to raise to help Scottish children's charities.”
If you are impressed by Mark's feat, there is still time to donate via his special Just Giving page or text BEAU87 with the amount to 70070.
