Discovery 3 Updates

What is a DRL?

A DRL (Discovery Report Language) file contains all the informationthat Insights Discovery needs to create profiles in the specifiedlanguage.

What will an update do for me?

Each updated DRL contains the latest revision of a reportinglanguage for Insights Discovery. Revisions may range from minorcorrections to translations of entire new profile chapters.

How can I tell whether I need an update?

Start your copy of Insights Discovery, and from the Help menu selectAbout Insights Discovery. The resulting dialog box will show exactlywhich version of Discovery you have. Compare the version you have withthe updates below to see whether you require an update or not.

Can I use these DRLs with Discovery 3.0?

No. If you replace a Discovery 3.0 DRL with one of these DRLsdesigned for use with Discovery 2.0, then Discovery 3.0 will not behaveproperly. The DRLs included on the Insights Discovery 3.0 CD are builtfrom the same translation sources as these, and so all the updatesincluded in these files are already included in Discovery 3.0. Overtime, it is likely that further updates and imrovements will becomeavailable for Discovery 3.0 which will not be available for Discovery2.0.

How do I update a DRL?

Youwill need to find Discovery's "Languages" folder on your hard disk. Theexact location of this folder will depend upon where you chose toinstall Insights Discovery to. It may also depend on which languageversion of Microsoft Windows you are using, or on the policies thatyour network administrator has created. However, the most commonlocation is:

C:\Program Files\Insights\Discovery\Languages

Ifyou are unsure where to find the "Languages" folder, try searching forfiles ending with the extension ".DRL" using the Find or Search optionon the Start Menu.

When you have found Discovery's "Languages"folder, make sure that Discovery is not running, then identify the DRLfile that you want to update. If a copy of the file already exists inthe "Languages" folder, we recommend strongly that you make a backupcopy of it in a different folder.

Once you have made sure thatyou have a backup copy of any existing DRLs you want to update,download the new DRL from the foot of this page to a safe location, andthen copy it into Discovery's "Languages" folder, replacing the olderversion. If the update is a new language for Discovery, you will notneed to replace an existing file. If there is an existing file in thefolder, you may be asked whether you want to overwrite it. So long asyou have created a backup copy of the original file elsewhere, thisshould not cause any problems.

When you start Discovery again,it will be able to use the new or updated language immediately - justselect the appropriate language on Discovery's Languages menu in orderto be able to open reports in that language.

Why are some chapters in English?

Insights Discovery's profiles are being translated on achapter-by-chapter basis. When a chapter is not available in theselected language, English text is substituted. Revisit this page everyso often to see whether new translations are available.

Will I be able to re-print an existing profile using the new DRL?

Yes. Depending on what has changed in the new DRL, you may noticesome minor improvements in wording, or a few statements which are toosimilar to others may have been removed. However, the profile willremain substantially the same.
