Need
Generics (UK) is a dynamic organisation that prides itself on an
ability to be ‘first to market’ with new products and developments.
Maintaining this position demands that individuals and teams understand
each other, work well together and appreciate the unique contribution
played by each diverse resource.
To ensure optimum performance, a training need was identified: to
improve team working and inter-team communications across different
teams. Negative perceptions, a lack of understanding and a poor
affinity between the teams had resulted in the creation of a negative
relationship.
The challenge facing the organisation: “How do we help these teams
better understand and appreciate each other and work more effectively?”
Solution
The learning and development programme comprised a series of components
– personal profiles, facilitated and interactive workshops and personal
learning guides.
Results
Our sponsor at Generics has really noticed that the team who
experienced the Discovery System seem to be communicating with each
other in a more relaxed way. Indeed, throughout the follow-up work,
individuals were frequently able to quote examples of when they had
dealt with situations with their managers and their peers/reports
differently than they might have prior to the Insights intervention.
Understanding difference and accepting difference, as opposed to simply
taking exception to an ‘alternative’ style has directly reduced levels
of conflict between individuals and teams.
“We worked with Insights via the most challenging group of people
within our organisation. I was delighted that even the most cynical of
them took the learning on-board and now discuss issues in colours.
To enable us to quantify the learning and produce hard statistics we
plan to review in six and twelve months and measure the results against
our pre-learning benchmark.”
